Dental care for children

For our youngest patients we have prepared a lot of surprises. We employ dentists with extensive experience in children’s dental care.

Many parents have trusted our clinic to provide permanent dental care to their children.

Prophylaxis

The basic direction of our care for patients at developmental age is focused on prophylaxis of pathologies in dentition i.e. first of all caries prophylaxis of milk and permanent teeth caries and the prophylaxis of malocclusions (see chapter: orthodontics).

Recommended for patients at developmental age include:

  • contact fluoride prophylaxis- applying the so-called fluoride varnish to prevent teeth decay in children
  • sealing grooves and fissures especially in young i.e. freshly erupted teeth both milk and permanent – especially recommended in the case of permanent molars i.e. “to teeth no. 6”.

Remember that all the prophylactic procedures are completely painless, which undoubtedly improves the relationship between the dentist and child. In addition, it has been known for a long time that it’s better to prevent than treat, that’s why applying prophylactic procedures at a proper age results in teeth free from caries. The principles of basic prophylactic procedures in pediatric dentistry explain the illustrations below.

Dental treatment in patients up to 3 years of age

This problem should not occur at all except for some congenital failures but still... some of you encounter a problem of treating the so-called early childhood caries. It should be emphasized that the occurrence of this syndrome (the so-called (“bottle-like”) early childhood caries, circumferential (ECC) etc.) is to much extent caused by bad nutritional habits, hygienic or a lack of proper prophylaxis. – should any symptoms of caries occur in a child under 3 years of age it is necessary to immediately start treatment.

Many people neglect the problem of treating milk dentition as being transient before change into permanent teeth. –but the truth is that failure to treat them in time may have devastating impact on future permanent dentition. A dental surgeon with proper skills allowing to treat developmental age patients (the so-called pedodontist) can exactly define a young patient’s dental care needs. Most frequently they include:

  • filling defects in milk teeth
  • endodontic treatment of milk teeth (considering the dates of the so-called root development stages, which affects the management of milk teeth during canal treatment)
  • setting the so-called steel crowns (in the case of milk teeth particularly damaged by caries)
  • milk teeth extractions in the case when the teeth cannot be treated applying conservative therapy or can be a source of bacterial infection (local or systemic).
All the above-mentioned dental care procedures can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on:
  • procedure extent (treating one defect in a small child cannot be equaled to the whole dentition sanitation e.g. 8-12 teeth)
  • patient co-operation (small children frequently do not cooperate with a dentist during treatment, which makes it almost impossible to properly perform procedures under local anesthesia)
  • general medical indications (e.g. children mentally retarded or suffering from congenital syndromes e.g. Down as a rule are treated under general anesthesia).

If you have encountered such a problem or have any questions feel free to send us an e-mail (to Clinic e-mail address) or contact our reception office to be directed to a proper specialist.

Some information about general anesthesia in children

General anesthesia for dental procedures in children (narcosis) should be applied only in when there are clear medical indications to use it.

The procedure, especially in young children, should be performed under hospital conditions, which can be provide by Trio-Dent in the Damian Medical Center. Prior to a procedure young patients are subject to proper tests analyzed by the anesthetist team of the Damian Medical Center. This is all aimed at providing maximum safety during general anesthesia for oral cavity medical procedures. To provide you with some knowledge about the methodology of dental procedures under general anesthesia and present the way we manage a patient, we present a full text of anesthetic questionnaire. Persons directly interested in a procedure performed under narcosis can print the text, fill it out and send to the fax number of Trio-Dent Clinic in CMD (Damian Medical Center) after arranging a consultation date with a dentist to perform the procedure. It will allow us to prepare questions for a patient or parents/foster-parents during a consultation visit. Unfortunately, by now for legal reasons we do not accept completed questionnaires submitted via e-mail.

Note!
The questionnaire is a registered pattern protected under copyright and it is prohibited by law to reproduce, copy or use it for purposes other than communication with a dentist prior to a procedure to be performed in the Trio-Dent Clinic, Damian Medical Center.
