Endodontics

Endodontics – is a field of dental surgery that deals with treating the disorders of dental pulp and periapical dental tissues. Thanks to considerable progress that has occurred lately in this field now we can treat teeth that previously would have to be extracted.

To obtain positive results of endodontic treatment the root canal should be properly cleaned, shaped and filled. Proper cleaning and shaping of the canal consists in removing microorganisms and the remains of pulp from the canal, and in shaping it to form a conical narrowing towards the apex of the root. Filling tight the root system with a biocompatible material completes the whole process of treatment.

Modern tools and devices are used at each treatment stage.

  1. The basic and commonly used diagnostic method used in endodontics in our clinic is radiovisiography (RVG). Digital x-ray pictures allow us to reduce the dose of radiation and exposure time. One of their big advantages is the possibility of computer processing.
  2. Using an endodontic microscope  (Zeiss Opmi Pico) provides a larger procedure area with good depth-of-field and with a very good lighting. The use of microscope in endodontics makes it possible to:
    • locating additional canal openings in the chamber bottom and processing canals considered clogged
    • endodontic treatment of difficult cases that require removing pulp stones or broken tools
    • treating the perforations of canal or tooth chambers
    • proper filling of root canals.
  3. To prepare and shape the canals in most clinic cases we use the mechanical systems of nickel/titanium endodontic tools (Profile, Protaper, K3), in difficult cases when we deal with obliterated canals or broken tools in canals we use endodontic ultrasonic tools.
  4. The aim of endodontic treatment is to form a canal adjusting it to the natural opening. To assess the length of canals we use electronic apex locators (endometers). These devices allow us to precisely specify the location of apex, and process the canal to a correct length and to fill it properly.
  5. The material we use most frequently for filling canals is gutta-percha with sealing pastes. We use tools allowing us to apply thermoplasticized gutta-percha (System B, Obtura, Thermafil).

Dental surgeons working for our Clinic thanks to the use of state-of-the-art tools and devices carry out advanced specialty root canal treatment meeting the highest standards.
